6 Ways to Protect Your Health this Summer
Summer is just around the corner, and although you may typically like to let your hair down, enjoy the heat and relax a little more, you mustn’t neglect your health. Sun and heat can be detrimental in many ways, but taking a few precautions could make all the difference.
Here are 6 ways to protect your health this summer.
Apply a good sunscreen
Although a certain amount of sunlight is good for us and provides us with much-needed Vitamin D, you must protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
Applying a good sunscreen with a high SPF and UV protection will reduce the risks of burning and minimize your risk of developing skin cancer. Apply at regular intervals throughout the day and stay out of the midday sun.
Wear the right clothes
Although a good sun cream will help protect your skin, it’s also wise to wear suitable clothing for added protection. Loose, comfortable clothing will help reduce sweating, keep your body sheltered from the sun, and minimize the risk of nasty mosquito bites. If you are wondering, do mosquitoes bite through clothes, the simple answer is yes, they do!
Stay hydrated
Being hydrated is crucial all year round but even more so in summer when we tend to sweat more. It is recommended that the average adult drink approximately 2-3 liters of water per day, but if you are spending a lot of time in high temperatures, it’s worth drinking more.
Dehydration can cause many different health problems and can even be dangerous over prolonged periods so keep your water bottle filled up and drink as often as you can.
Wear sunglasses
Our eyes are sensitive and can be damaged by the sun, so it’s worth investing in a decent pair of shades to help protect them. Not only are sunglasses functional, but they make a pretty cool fashion accessory too!
Eat a healthy diet
Some of the most delicious produce is readily available during the summer months, so there is no excuse not to eat a healthy diet and fuel your body with much-needed nutrients.
Pack your plate with a rainbow of mouth-watering vegetables followed by an array of fresh fruit, and over time you will feel more energized, and your skin should start to look better also.
Stay active
In colder months, we may be more inclined to want to stay indoors and curl up on the sofa, but summer is a great excuse to get fit and stay active. Evenings are generally lighter for longer, so it’s the perfect time to venture out for a long walk or a light jog to keep your heart in good shape.
If you have kids, running around playing ball in the park is a great way to expend some energy and do wonders for your general health.
Being active will also help burn calories which, in turn, can aid weight loss, so if you want to shed a few pounds, this is the perfect season for it!
