8 Most Effective Hair Removal Method For Female Beauty
Many people, both men and women, want to get rid of body-hair. This wish has been around for thousands of years and just grows stronger in today’s beauty- and fashion oriented society. Men commonly want hair removed from between the eyebrows, around the outside of the ears, and the shoulders. Women commonly want to remove facial hair on the lip, chin, eyebrows, neck, bikini line, abdomen, breasts, forearms, and underarms.
Hair removal methods will vary according to what area of the body the hair is being removed from. For women, the best techniques for removing hair on the legs and underarms is shaving, waxing or using electrolysis for permanent removal. Tweezing is an easy way to remove hair from around the eyes, and for fuzzy faces, using waxing or electrolysis is best.
There are many ways for women to remove unwanted hair at home or in the salon. Discover the pros and cons of each hair removal method.
Hair Removal with Shaving:
Shaving, which involves cutting off the hairs at the skin’s surface, is one of the most popular and oldest methods of home hair removal. The reason why this method has survived for so long as a popular practice is because it is the most simple, convenient, painless and cheap method of hair removal around.
However, this method of hair removal does have its downsides, the main one being that it is the most temporary of all the hair removal methods. Shaving will therefore generally need to be repeated every few days, or even daily for some. Another problem with shaving is that it can damage the skin if not done properly, or cause shaving rash and ingrown hairs.
Using Hair Removal Cream:
There are quite a few depilatory creams on the market which dissolve the hair at skin level. They provide slower regrowth and a less stubbly effect than shaving but they do involve a bit of hanging about covered in messy cream and although the manufacturers try to disguise the chemical smell, they have not quite succeeded so the creams smell quite strongly. Sometimes it just seems easier to shave the required areas in the bath or shower every day than to mess around with creams every few days and have to hang around waiting for the cream to do its work.
They are handy for the areas which are tricky to shave however (such as the pubic area) and they are better than shaving for facial areas due to the slower regrowth and slightly finer appearance and texture of hair as it grows back.
Waxing and Sugaring as a Hair Removal Method:
Waxing usually gives quite a few days and often weeks without regrowth so it is one of the best temporary hair removal methods from that point of view. There are several types of wax treatment such as cold wax strips, hot wax or sugar waxing (similar to waxing but with a sticky paste rather than wax). The treatment basically consists of having the hair adhere to the stickiness of the wax so that several hairs can be pulled out at once. Needless to say most people find this painful to say the least.
But if you use a skilled therapist, she or he will work quickly and effectively while you just have to grit your teeth and enjoy beautiful smooth legs (or whatever) for a few weeks. Home wax treatment is not for the faint-hearted – it takes courage to pull off those strips but if you are familiar with salon waxing and don’t find the pain too bad, it is worth having a go yourself.
Plucking Unwanted Hair:
Plucking is the most painful method of hair removal, but may be the most worthwhile when there are just a few hairs you want to remove. Examples include reshaping your eyebrows or pulling out those few stray hairs that may appear on your face, especially for a woman. You should not use this hair removal method for large areas because it can cause ingrown hairs or scarring.
Laser Hair Removal:
This is one of the longest-lasting methods and generally requires four or more treatment sessions. The laser beam or a light pulse works to destroy the hair bulb itself. The treatment can be expensive and sometimes painful. Be sure to select a doctor or technician who is highly trained and knowledgeable. You may require multiple sessions, but it can be used on many parts of the body where unwanted hair may appear.
Friction Methods of Hair Removal:
Removing hair by means of a skin hair friction mitt or other rough substance such as pumice stone is not that common but it can be effective for some. The unwanted hair is gently rubbed off at the skin surface and it takes with it any roughness from the surface of the skin too which has the advantage of removing dull, dry, rough and flaky skin.
Bleaching Unwanted Hair:
Bleaching is not really a method of hair removal at all as it does not involve removing hair but it is included here as it helps to disguise unwanted hair. Bleaching lightens the color of hair so that it is less obvious against paler skin. It’s a great choice for finer hair which would not be a problem if it were not so dark. This is often the case with hair on the face and arms for women.
Using a Hair Removal Mitt:
Hair removal mitts, such as Alida Silkymit, have a surface that resembles sandpaper, which you rotate against dry skin in a circular motion in order to smooth away hair. The advantages of using a hair removal mitt are that they are very cheap, they are convenient for traveling, and results should last up to a week with regrowth being less noticeable. The disadvantages, however, are that this method can be harsh and painful for some users, and it can also be ineffective at removing all hairs.
Advice:
- Do not shave any area of the body where the skin is irritated or there are cuts or a rash. Doing so may create more skin irritation and in-grown hairs.
- Do a skin patch test before using a depilatory cream to be certain you will not develop a rash from using the product. Waxing may also irritate the skin; do a small area first.
- Before signing up to do an expensive series of electrolysis treatments, start with a small area such as the eyebrows or upper lip before committing to paying for a larger area.
